Alderman Michael Smetana - Ward 1

Mike is the 1st Ward Alderman, and enjoys working to make Countryside an even better place to live. He and his wife Audrey have lived in Countryside for 36 years. They have raised three daughters in Countryside, and are now enjoying their four grandchildren who live just minutes away. Mike is a retired SBC Ameritech Construction Manager. He served as a sergeant in the United States Army. 

Presently, he is serving as chairman of the Infrastructure Committee, is a member of the Water Committee, Finance Committee, Police Committee and Recreation Committees, and ESDA Liaison. Mike is the current secretary of the Independent Party of Countryside and has served as past chairman. He is also a member of the Vulcan Community Advisory Committee, which meets regularly to discuss the community’s blasting concerns. Mike is a member of the American Legion Robert E. Coulter Jr. Post No. 1041, and an active member of the LaGrange Bible Church. 

He promises to continue to vote in the best interest of the majority of Countryside’s residents on issues that come before the City Council. Issues such as keeping the City in the best financial shape ever, even with a depressed market, allowing it’s residents the luxury of not paying any municipal real estate taxes.
