Once a permit has been obtained from the Building Department there
are certain responsibilities placed on the owner/contractor. The owner
must post the permit on the job site during the entire time of the
construction.
A Building Contractor, must do the following: inform the Building and
Inspection Department 24 hours before starting the work, call for an
inspection 24 hours before pouring concrete footings, call for an
inspection 24 hours before pouring concrete in reinforced construction
(otherwise a load test will be required, it is highly recommended that
the concrete be ordered after the inspection has been approved and not
before), call for an inspection 24 hours before back filling and after
footing tile and 12" of gravel has been placed and walls have been
damp proofed, call 24 hours for an inspection before any concrete floor
slabs are poured and after any insulation, vapor barriers, plumbing or
electrical has been installed, must call for an inspection 24 ahead on
all framing, plumbing, electrical, insulation, etc.
A Plumbing Contractor must call 24 hours ahead for all inspections
involving in-ground plumbing, rough plumbing, rough plumbing in
concrete, plumbing test (air/water), water connection test, etc.
A Mechanical contractor must call 24 hours ahead when work is
completed and ready for inspection.
An Electrical Contractor must call 24 hours ahead for all inspections
involving in-ground electric, rough electric, rough electric in
concrete, electric service (after installation of electric panel, meter
trough and ground connection, the panel must be open and accessible to
the inspector).
