Community Development - Route 66 Heritage Project/National Scenic
Byway
The City
of Countryside and its Community Development Department have been named
the Chicago/Cook County Regional Coordinator for the State of Illinois'
Route 66 Heritage Project.
The Heritage Project, a non-profit organization
headquartered in Springfield, was granted designation of Illinois Route
66 (Joliet Rd.) as a National Scenic Byway in 2005. The project
previously achieved status as a
state-designated heritage tourism project. The national designation as
a byway will bring new tourism and marketing benefits to the many
communities that line the Illinois Route 66 Corridor. Further
Heritage Project information can be accessed online at
www.illinoisroute66.com.
The City thanks
all the residents, businesses and other interested individuals who were
able to make the public meetings on this project. More information on the first Route 66 meeting can be accessed by reading the
press release -
Program Planned to Benefit Route 66 Communities.
