JULIE Information
Today, more utility
companies and municipalities that supply power, gas, water and
telecommunications are delivering these services underground, including
the City of Countryside. With this in mind, JULIE, Inc. and its
members are promoting the importance of calling the Illinois One-Call
System before any digging projects and stressing safe-digging practices
to professional excavators and homeowners as part of a statewide "Dig
Safely Illinois" education campaign.
According to state law, anyone planning an outdoor project that
requires digging, regardless of the depth or size of the outdoor
project, should call JULIE at (800) 892-0123. The call to JULIE
and the service it provides are free to the excavator and the City urges
all residents and businesses to contact them BEFORE any project begins.
Call center operations are available to receive and process calls 24
hours/day, 7 days a week.
Common examples of homeowner projects that require a call to JULIE
before digging include putting up a fence, installing a swing set, a
mailbox post or new water feature, building a deck or room addition,
preparing a new garden area, or adding new trees, bushes or shrubs.
Please have the following information ready when you call JULIE:
-Your name, address, telephone number
-County and city
-Your company's name and address (if applicable)
-Location of the dig site
-Extent of the work involved (reason for dig)
-Date work will begin
-Permit number (if applicable)
-Section and quarter section numbers (if available)
After providing JULIE with the above information, the JULIE operator
will give you a "dig number". Be sure to write the number down as
it serves as proof of your call. You will also need to reference
this number if subsequent calls to JULIE are necessary.
Please do not dig without JULIE marks unless the utility has
indicated there are no facilities in the dig area.
