The Community Development Department is located on the second floor of City Hall and maintains hours of operation M-F from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm and consists of five employees. The Department Head and Building Commissioner are:

  • Ms. Sharon Peterson,  Assistant City Administrator
  • Mr. Steve Tisinai, Building Commissioner 

In addition, the Department has a Clerk, Economic Development Coordinator and Electrical Inspector.

Primary functions of the Community Development Department are:

  • Responsible for the enforcement of ordinances regulating the protection of public health, safety, welfare as related to existing buildings and new construction
  • To provide zoning code interpretation and enforcement
  • General requirements for building permits
  • To provide subdivision requirements
  • To provide scheduling for permit inspections
  • Provides continuous review of the municipal zoning code
  • To review all preliminary and final site plans
  • To conduct inspections for the pre-sale inspection program, rental property inspection and licensing program, and vacant property licensing and inspection program
  • To serve as the city’s liaison to the plan commission / zoning board of appeals
  • To provide certificate of occupancy and business license inspections
  • To provide constant review of the countryside comprehensive plan, vision for 2024
  • To provide customer service for contractors, home, business, and property owners as necessary
