This facility contains a metering system which continually monitors the electrical usage and water usage of the building. The monitoring looks at the photovoltaic (PV) system production and the utility electrical usage to ensure the facility is producing more energy from the sun verses what it consumes from the utility company. It allows the City to make sure all the systems are operating at their most efficient level.

Because of the police station’s 24-hour operations, lighting is always needed; however, the light levels will be reduced during periods of less activity. The non-essential landscape and building accent lighting operates from sunset to 10:00 pm.
The more glass a building has, the more the sun will warm up the building’s interior, causing an HVAC system to work harder. In this building, insulated low-emissivity glass provides an 84% improvement in solar heat gain versus typical insulated glass in 2018.
