Mayor Sean McDermott and his wife Barbara have been residents of the City of Countryside for 32 years.  The three McDermott children all attended Lyons Township High School.

Sean McDermott was elected Mayor in April, 2015 after serving over 7 years as a Ward 3 Alderman. Mayor McDermott served as Chairman of the Economic Development Committee and also served on the Recreation and Police Committees.

Mayor McDermott is president of S.R. McDermott Consulting, Inc. a government affairs firm that focuses primarily on health care issues.  He formerly served as the Policy Development and Communications Director at the Cook County Department of Public Health. As a public health policy analyst, he was responsible for the research, development, and promotion of public health laws and regulations. His public health policy work has been recognized with awards from the National Association of City and County Health Officials, Illinois Public Health Association, and the Illinois Association of Public Health Administrators.

Mayor McDermott is active in his community having done volunteer work with the following boards, community associations and non-profit organizations: Aging Well, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, Chicago Area Mountain Bike Riders Association, and Cook County Primary Health Care Council Access to Care, Lyons Township Little League, LaGrange Babe Ruth Baseball, St Cletus Food Pantry, and Salt Creek Watershed Network.

Mayor McDermott is a 1983 graduate of Saint Mary’s College, Winona, Minnesota.
