MINUTES OF THE POLICE COMMITTEE MEETING
TUESDAY, JUNE 12, 2012 – 5:30 PM
COUNCIL CHAMBER
CALL TO ORDER & ROLL CALL:
Meeting was called to order at 5:32 p.m. Those present were: Chairman Pondelicek, Aldermen Michalczyk, Jasinski, McDermott, VonDrasek, and Treasurer Jasinski. Also present: Erik Peck, Police Chief Ruth, Deputy Chief Novak, City Administrator Gail Paul, Assistant City Administrator Sharon Peterson, Chief John Madden (Burr Ridge PD), Bill Shanley (Southwest Central Dispatch).
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
The minutes of March 20, 2012 were signed and dated by Chairman Pondelicek.
REQUEST THE PURCHASE/REPLACEMENT OF SPEED TRAILER/MESSAGE DISPLAY SIGN.
Chief Ruth explained that the current speed trailer is over 11 years old and currently out of service. The speed trailer/message display sign is used to communicate messages to the community and is used with special traffic details, such as Click it or Ticket. Replacement of this item was budged in the FY2013 budget for $15,000. Chief Ruth recommends purchasing a replacement unit from All Traffic Solutions at a cost of $12,365, which includes the trade-in of our existing unit. Committee concurred with staff’s recommendation.
REQUEST THE PURCHASE/REPLACEMENT OF 8 IN-CAR CAMERAS FOR PATROL VEHICLES.
Chief Ruth explained that the current units are beginning to fail. They are over 6 years old and are starting to show signs of failure. These cameras are in use 24/7 and are exposed to heat/cold. If the cameras go down the department is at risk for liability. $45,800 has been budgeted for this expense in the FY2013 ETSB budget. Chief Ruth recommends purchasing the cameras from L3 Communications for $42,670, plus installation from Ultra Strobe for $2,200. Committee concurred with staff’s recommendation.
ADJOURN TO EXECUTIVE SESSION TO DISCUSS COLLECTIVE BARGAINING MATTERS.
There being no further business to discuss, the meeting adjourned to executive session. Time 5:38 PM.
