MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING
BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSION
CITY OF COUNTRYSIDE
June 16, 2015

1. Call to Order

Meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m.

2. Roll Call

Upon roll call the following were present:

Jerry Welch, Chairman
Mark Burdett, Secretary
Mary Louise Pisone, Commissioner

Also in attendance: Sue Dignin, HR/Executive Assistant

3. Approval of Minutes

Motion was made by Mark Burdett and seconded by Mary Louise Pisone to approve the Regular Meeting minutes of March 10, 2015 and Special Meeting minutes of May 20, 2015. Motion carried and the minutes were approved.

4. Motion to go into Executive Session

Motion was made by Mark Burdett and seconded by Mary Louise Pisone to review the Executive Session minutes of March 10, 2015 and May 20, 2015. Motion carried to recess to Executive Session at 5:43 p.m.

5. Reconvene to Open Meeting

Open meeting reconvened at 5:49 p.m. with the same members present.

6. Approval of Executive Session minutes of March 10, 2015 and May 20, 2015

A motion was made by Mary Louise Pisone and seconded by Mark Burdett to approve the Executive Session minutes of March 10, 2015 and May 20, 2015. Motion carried and the minutes were approved.

None

8. New Business

Police Officer Candidates Ryan Venem and Michael Maher will be sworn in at the City Council meeting on June 24, 2015. Ryan Venem’s hire date will be June 29, 2015 and he will begin the Police Academy on July 6, 2015. Michael Maher’s hire date will be July 6, 2015. Mr. Maher is currently a Police Officer at the Village of Matteson, which will not require him to attend the Police Academy.

9. Old Business

Board will review the final draft of the lateral hire policy at the September 8, 2015 meeting.

10. Other Business

The Commission reviewed the monthly police reports for March and April.

The Police Department would like to implement a 12-hour shift schedule. A Memorandum of Understanding between the City of Countryside and the Illinois Fraternal Order of Police Labor Council will be presented at the June 24, 2015 City Council meeting for approval.

The Commission received an honorable mention letter for Officer April Bisignani for her outstanding performance in response to a call for assistance locating a missing/suicidal subject.

The Commission discussed considering the extension of the current Police Officer Eligibility list for one more year. The current list will expire on June 20, 2016.

11. Adjournment

A motion was made to adjourn by Mark Burdett and seconded by Mary Louise Pisone. Motion carried and the meeting adjourned at 6:17 p.m.

The next scheduled meeting will be held on September 8, 2015 at 5:30 p.m.
