BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSION

March 13, 2012

Meeting was called to order at 7:30pm. Upon roll call the following were present:

Jerry Welch, Chairman

Mark Burdett, Secretary

Also in attendance: Jim Jasinski, Alderman

Sharon Peterson, Assistant City Administrator

Michael Ruth, Police Chief

The minutes of the December 13, 2011 meeting were approved. The December 2011 minutes indicated that the application timeline would end March 26, 2012. After discussion, it was determined that the application timeline would run through April 2, 2012.

Chairman Welch reviewed the mail and the monthly Police Department report.

The Commission received a letter of resignation from Scott Musillami dated March 1, 2012. The letter was accepted by the Commission. With the resignation of Scott Musillami, there is a vacancy on the Commission which the Mayor and the City Council are in the process of filling.

The Commission discussed the upcoming Police Officer Recruitment. Applications are available at the Police Department beginning March 19, 2012 and are due back to the department April 2, 2012 by 5:00pm. An orientation meeting for potential candidates is scheduled for Tuesday, April 10, 2012 from 7:00 – 9:00pm. Chief Ruth will also conduct a power point presentation during the orientation. Applications will be reviewed by Commissioners Welch and Burdett prior to the orientation to ensure that any errors are brought to the candidate’s attention the evening of the orientation.

The written examination is scheduled for Saturday, April 21, 2012 from 8:00am to noon, and the Oral Examination is scheduled for Wednesday, May 2, 2012 from 7:00 – 9:00pm. All exams will be held in the Council Chambers at City Hall. The testing will be administered by PCI of Westmont, Illinois.

The City is publishing the announcement of the recruitment in The Doings newspaper beginning on Thursday, March 15, 2012. The ad will run for one week and it will also be available on Monster.com. The announcement is also on the City’s website. Ms. Peterson has also contacted colleges and universities in the area (that have criminal justice programs) to post the job announcement as well.

Chief Ruth presented the 2011 Countryside Police Department Annual Report and training bulletin for the Department.

The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held on June 12, 2012.

Chairman Welch asked for any additional business and hearing none asked for a motion to adjourn.

The meeting adjourned at 8:11pm.
