WATER COMMITTEE MEETING

I. CALL TO ORDER
Chairman Alderman Benson called the meeting to order at 5:30 PM.
II. ROLL CALL
Present: Alderman Benson, Alderman Pondelicek, Alderman Von Drasek
Also Present: DPW Superintendent Essig, City Engineer Fitzgerald, and Operator Hartigan
III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Alderman Pondelicek moved to approve the minutes of July 14, 2015, as presented, seconded by Alderman Von Drasek and carried unanimously.
IV. PUBLIC COMMENT
None
V. APPROVAL TO ACCEPT LOW ESTIMATE FOR ANNUAL COMMERCIAL METER TESTING.
This matter was tabled.
VI. DISCUSSION OF A PERMANENT SOLUTION FOR REPAIR TO THE COUNTRYSIDE PLAZA WATER MAIN.
a. City Engineer Fitzgerald reviewed the history of water main issues. He presented 2 options for a permanent solution. Option 1 was an open cut for water main replacement. Option 2 was to line the water main.
Alderman Von Drasek moved to approve Option 2, seconded by Alderman Pondelicek.
b. City Engineer Fitzgerald also discussed the pavement patch needed at Countryside Plaza. The patch will cost approximately $60,000.00.
Alderman Pondelicek moved to approve the pavement patch project, seconded by Alderman Von Drasek.
VII. OTHER BUSINESS.
a. City Engineer John Fitzgerald discussed the emergency water main repairs needed on 71st Place. There is a leak that cannot be located. Staff recommends replacing the water main. The project is estimated to cost $225,000.00.
Alderman Von Drasek moved to approve the water main replacement project, seconded by Alderman Pondelicek.
b. Alderman Benson discussed the fire at Chariot Towing last night. The one fire hydrant that was LaGrange Highlands, did not work. The Water Department should contact the Highlands about making sure they repair the hydrant.
c. The hydrant on Constance Lane at Joliet Road has a Nicor gas line around it. Nicor will fix the gas line so we can replace the hydrant.
VIII. ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business to discuss, Alderman Pondelicek moved to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Alderman Von Drasek and carried unanimously.
Chairman Benson declared the meeting adjourned at 6:11 PM.
