Jim Essig began his employment as Superintendent of Public Works for the City of Countryside in April 2010. He is born and raised in Countryside and began working for the Countryside Department of Public Works in 1978 as a part-time summer employee. Jim became a full-time employee of the City in 1984, and promoted to the Foreman position in 1993.

Jim attended Pleasantdale Elementary School, Lyons Township High School, The College of DuPage (Criminal Justice) and recently attended a management training course at the University of Illinois (Winter 2009-2010).

Jim is heavily involved in community activities such as serving as board member for the Zion Lutheran Preschool (Lyons) from 1992-1994. For the Pleasantdale Little League, Jim was a board member, manager and coach from 1994-2007. Jim also is heavily involved in Western Springs Jr. Football, serving as manager, coach, board member and board president (1994-2007).

Jim’s mother Louise is a 47 year Countryside resident while wife Patti is born and raised in Countryside. Jim has three children, Courtney (21), Kevin (16) and Scott (16).
