The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners of the City of Countryside is accepting applications to create a Police Officer Lateral Entry Eligibility List.

COMPLETED APPLICATIONS and REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION should be returned to the Countryside Police Department, 803 Joliet Road, Countryside, IL 60525. Applications are valid for one year from the date of submission.


Applicants must meet the following:

  • Must be a certified police officer with the State of Illinois through the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board and have served in good standing in another law enforcement agency for at least 12 months preceding the application OR Applicants who have previously been certified as a law enforcement officer in another state must meet the conditions of reciprocity as regulated by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age but must not have reached the age of 36 at time of application.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License.
  • Must have earned a minimum of 60 accredited college/university credit hours or completed military service with an honorable discharge.
  • Must have no felony convictions and be of good moral character, of temperate habits, of sound health, and must be physically able to perform the essential job functions of the position of police officer.
  • No residency requirement.


Salary is based upon experience and prior service. The minimum starting salary for a previously trained and certified patrol officer is $75,163 (this amount is effective until 04/30/2021).

The City of Countryside has an immediate opening for a part-time crossing guard. Individual will be required to work two (2) crossings per day and must be willing to work in any type of weather.  Salary is $25.00 per day, no benefits.

The City of Countryside is seeking dependable individuals with a desire to work with the public at the front desk in the Police Department.  Varied responsibilities include:  greet, answer, screen and route non-emergency telephone calls and walk-in inquiries; collect monies associated with fees, fines and bonds, and generate reports and maintain records.  Requires excellent communication skills.  Candidates must be able to effectively communicate with members of the public, sworn officers, and City employees and be able to convey information effectively and discreetly.  Bilingual and knowledge of Microsoft Office a plus.  Prior public safety experience desirable.

Starting salary is $13/hr.  The work schedule entails shift work (afternoons and midnights), including weekends and holidays with a maximum of 16 hours per week.  Benefits are not offered for this position.
