Mark-Benson-210x300Mark Benson was appointed Alderman of Ward 3 by Mayor Sean McDermott after Sean was elected mayor in April, 2015. Mark grew up in La Grange Highlands, attended St. Cletus School, Lyons Township High School, and Eastern Illinois University. He has lived in Countryside with his wife, Sheila, and their 3 children for the past 15 years. Prior to his appointment, Alderman Benson served on the Zoning Board for 5 years, and now sits on the Economic Development and Special Events Committees, and is Chairman of the Infrastructure Committee.

Mark is Superintendent for a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) general contractor. He was a carpenter/foreman for a Chicago-based general contractor for many years and has extensive construction and project management experience.

Mark has been an active member of the community. Throughout the years, he was a leader for Indian Guides, coach for Lyons Township Little League and his daughter’s basketball team, and has served as a volunteer in various capacities at Highlands School and St. Cletus School.

Alderman Benson has a can-do approach to life and is grateful for the opportunity to represent the residents and businesses of Ward 3. He looks forward to working with his fellow city council members, residents, businesses, and city administrators to keep Countryside a great place to live, shop and play!
